UPDATE ON GRIP DECK DETACHABLE BEDSKIRT

Thank you so much for your kind comments and many inquiries about the Grip Deck Detachable Bedskirt Kit.

Many of you asked where I purchased my Grip Deck kit for my bedskirt. I posting this update in an attempt to answer those questions.

My Instructions for making the actual bedskirt panels are  at the top of my blog, on the Tutorial Page.

There is good news and bad news.
The bad news. It seems the Grip Deck kit is no longer available. I have tried to reach the website from which I purchased my kit. The site is no longer active. They are no longer in business.
I was able to find a patent filing for this kit issued to Sweet Dreams West of Tuscan, Az., their phone number had been disconnected.
Looks like I am the only person who bought one of these kits. LOL! I really DID and DO like the product.
The good news. I have figured out how to make it with readily available supplies.  My suggestions are a part of this post.

I have been thinking about this and it can be duplicated.  There are three ways to achieve this.

My Method for making the deck!
1.  The base, the part covering the top of the boxspring, looks to be made from a product similar to a lightweight rug pad. You know the kind like the rubber shelf liner except heavier. You could purchase a lightweight rug pad that would fit your mattress. Cut to fit and stitch or glue the hook side of hook and loop tape around the perimeter of the pad/decking. Place this between your matteress and boxspring and proceed with the skirting instructions (on the tutorial page).
 2.  Purchase the rubber shelf liner. Cut three lengths, two for the side measurements and on for the foot measurement of your bed. Stitch or glue the hook side of hook and loop tape to one edge of each of the three sections you have cut. Lift the edge of your mattress and place these strips under the mattress edges with the tape to the outside edge. Proceed with the skirting instructions.
3.  If you don't mind adhering something directly to your mattress,  you could purchase the self adhesive hook and loop tape and attach the hook side to the top outside edges to your boxsprings.  Proceed with the skirting instructions.
You could adhere the self adhesive loop tape in the area shown in this photo. Top of the boxspring, outside edge.
I appreciate all the nice comments you left. I have tried to answer, in this post, the many questions you have. Thank you so much for your interest in this project. Hope this additional information helps.
I will be back Monday with the pillows and a surprise window treatment.

I love how the shimmer of the fabric in your bedspread is repeated in the silk of your bedskirt. The colors are so pretty too. I was terrified of silk the first time that I worked with it, but quickly found what a great fabric it is. Can't wait to see the pillows and especially the surprise window treat!

You sure are the clever one Ginger. Your persistent thinking paid off. Love your bedroom! Have a great weekend...hopefully the storms will pass us by, scary stuff out there with Irene.

Very clever! I think glue the tape directly to the box springs or platform is the easist way to go. When my bed's Summer Dress comes off and the Winter one goes on this is how I plan to handle it!

Hope you join me next week for my first Potpourri Friday Party!

Thanks for letting me know about this -- that idea is really genius, the rug pad, that is. I have had mixed results using Velcro. Sometimes a heavy fabric which is lined will simply detach itself from the weight. I have noticed this with sink skirts in particular, even though I have bought the "industrial" grade of the stuff. I am going to try this idea next time I make a bedskirt. You do sew beautifully. Thanks for a great idea.

Do you interline your silk curtains?

Dearest Ginger,

SMART LADY you are! This is super. Wish we had an American bed but we don't... so those things don't work for us.
I'm proud of you for having your comments such that I now land directly on your blog! Time efficient; LOVE it.

Love to you,

Mariette
