Occupy What?
I still don't know.
Notice this bronze statue. More about it later. |
Occupy Everything said it best.
I have never smoked marijuana but I know the smell. Believe me if I had stayed a little longer I could have gotten a free high.
This woman was occupying a parallel planet known only to her. She wasn't espousing a cause. Just enjoying the party.
Hey Dude! He already occupies the White House!
We elected him!
Next!
Lots of drums... bongos, steel drums.
I think this lady was taking advantage of the free marijuana. Several tourist types where joining in the meditation process.
I can heartily agree with this one.
Kim took a photo of me taking a photo...blue and green sweater.
The sculpture above is called "Double Check".
You can read about it's journey HERE!
I saw signs supporting, American Indian Rights, Clean Environment, Gay and Lesbian Rights, Anti-Capitalism, Communism and some things of which I had never heard. Many good causes upon the signs. Effective support? Not so sure but there is surely something for everyone.
I did think it interesting...for a protest that started out as Anti-Capitalism, there were many products being sold and many individuals were charging for the taking of photographs.
From my observations, I don't think anything can be accomplished by this group. What I observed was disorganized, disorder. Honorable causes? You decide!
Effective, I don't think so! Citizen's rights stretched to the limit, I think so.
Just My Humble Opinion.
God Bless America!
Despite all this old girl's warts
She has the most beautiful face on the planet!

Oh bless you for saying what I am thinking!!
Yep. Occupy Everything. The group in Atlanta is not far from where my niece lives. Apparently, the stench is absolutely foul.
I would consider them a harmless bunch of pot heads were it not for their actual stated goals from the original website. Those aren't harmless at all.
Scary, really.
I think this 'protest' is a mess and the meaning if there ever was a clear one has been lost. Mr ALC is very upset with all this and what it is costing the taxpayers for these 'kids' to party on! Just my opinion!
I am in total agreement with you, Ginger. But don't get me started.
We were in London the day after the Royal Wedding and the Day Before May Day. The police presence was astounding, riot gear, paddy wagons, the works. We stopped and spoke with a couple of policemen who were very friendly and said they were gearing up for the May Day Holiday, where every "malcontents of every ilk" would show up. They were already gathering in droves and camps. I took pictures but have never posted them.
I'm afraid that this mess of "malcontents of every ilk" will get a lot worse before it gets better.
Great photos and commentary, Ginger :)
I enjoyed this post
and the photographs too.
I agree with your sentiments.
Have a good weekend
Fiona
I don't understand their cause - but God Bless America - they can go out there with free speech. sandie
My opinion of this bunch is that it gives them an excuse not to be looking or working at a job that they feel is beneath them. I think the city has let it get way out of control. It seems that they are eating like champs, and going to the bathroom in the streets - charming, isn't it? My 2 cents worth of advice to them: Go home, shower, pray for strength and go slings some burgers and just apply for any and all jobs. Trust me, that is more proactive. God bless the USA! xo
Yeah, Atlanta was "occupied" too. I never did understand what it was all about. I think they finally arrested the few who were left after they were told they couldn't "occupy" the park any more. It's cost the City of Atlanta $451,000 so far on the clean up.
Hi Ginger, I recently watched a news show where they interviewed a number of these protestors. It was funny that only a couple of people actually knew why they were protesting. Most said they were there because "it was something to do" or just fun.
Hugs,
Sherry
Oh boy hubby talk about occupy too hhehe. Happy TT!
Mine is here
Dearest Ginger,
Glad you and Kim got safely back from visiting with those low-lives that are too lazy to get their butts moving for a real job. Embarrassing to the entire world!
Certainly I don't want to be associated with them, nor with their idea about life...
But you posted a very interesting story about it. You both were very brave!
Love to you,
Mariette
You said it well Ginger. I'm all for free speech and I'm as disheartened as the next person over the mess the big corp's made out of our economy but this doesn't look like an effective way to make a change. At this point it looks like it's more of a massive homeless movement which just gets ignored.
Have a wonderful Friday Sweetie!
Ginger, I agree with you when you said, "I did think it interesting...for a protest that started out as Anti-Capitalism, there were many products being sold and many individuals were charging for the taking of photographs."
I'm all about freedom of speech and all about freedom in general. Since freedom doesn't work with communism, I have a suggestion for them. Why don't they take it on down the road to Cuba. I'm sure Castro would love to have them. It isn't even that far, just across a small stretch of water. That as opposed to moving to what remains of the broken down USSR.
Socialism? Go move in with the Archbishop of Canterbury. Judging from his recent speech, he'd love to have them!
XO,
Sheila
Oh Ginger, so glad you had the courage to address what I am also thinking and it's got me worrying from the outside looking in!! I just don't know what direction my dear USA is taking, hope next elections are better, otherwise we'll head to be like Europe. God bless America and thank you for sharing. Love,
FABBY
