MY FAVORITE POSSESSION

I am not quite up to a project at this time.  SO! I am enjoying looking at all your wonderful and inspirational projects. I will probably be copying some of them the real soon.

For now, I thought I would share my favorite possession with you. It is definitely vintage.

Do you know those people who can take nothing and create a thing of beauty. I knew a lady who could take a ball of twine/thread and create the most beautiful and unique things you would ever see.
These beautiful crochet gloves were made by my mother, Vivian Anderson.
She made them for me to wear for Easter.
I was sixteen years old.

She was a crocheting machine. She made beautiful pieces for all her grandchildren and dozens and dozens of doilies and such.
Unfortunately, she called me one day, from Atlanta, all excited.  She sold a huge box of those pieces at a garage sale. I asked if there were any left. I was able to save a very few.
I had to take this off the wall to avoid the glare

That Easter I felt like "the belle of the ball"(I guess that is not an appropriate attitude for Easter). Only saying how happy I was to be wearing these beautiful gloves.

The photos are not good but the gloves are awesome!

This is the glare when the frame was on the wall. You can see the swing arm lamp by the bed.
I see these gloves each morning when I awake. I can remember seeing my Momma, sitting, rocking, crocheting and watching the "World Series".  She refused to answer the phone during a series game. Precious Memories.
I hope you enjoyed a glimpse of fashion in 1956!
Oh, in case you are wondering.  Yes, I did wear a hat!

I am joining these gracious hostesses. They host the greatest parties. Be sure to link back to them to see tons of inspiring posts.

Oh, these gloves are beautiful! How special you've kept them and I love how you've displayed them! Your mother was a wonderful crocheter. I crochet too but can't imagine making those dainty gloves!

Ginger, what exquisite gloves! I love that you have them framed, so you can enjoy them every day. Your mama knew how to make you feel special and loved, didn't she? Your post made me think that we need to have an Easters Past party, so people can scan and post old photos of themselves all dolled up for Easter. Just love looking at those!

I love those gloves and the story that goes behind it. What a blessing to have those with such a great memory attached. We all wore gloves and hats to church too in the 50's & 60's.

We have one pair of gloves like that from my husband's grandmother with roses on the wrist. Love them. xxoo Diana

What a wonderful keepsake. I took crocheting lessons a few weeks ago to find out what I was doing wrong and I sure can appreciate her beautiful work.

Ginger, those are beautiful. I bet you were "the belle of the ball" that Easter. How wonderful that you have preserved them as a remembrance to your mother.

I guess like minds think the same...I'm working on a shadow box that will hold my MIL's beautiful needlepoint purse that she made probably thirty years ago. Every time I look at that purse I see her.

Thanks for sharing and hope you are back to projects soon.

What wonderful treasure you have those gloves. The way you have framed them helps to preserve them. Air tends to make things deteriorate.

Gorgeous! And I'm sure you did feel very special wearing these. Isn't it funny how people would let the phone ring in the days before there were answering machines and voice mail and texting and now we act like the world will end if we don't pick up the phone while we're whizzing down the parkway?? Great post.

Ginger, how wonderful to have the gloves your mother made you for Easter. Your mom really had a talent for crocheting and I'll bet you looked like you were dressed for the Easter Parade with the gloves and your hat. I remember those days.
Hugs,
Babs

Hi Ginger!
I have never seen such pretty gloves. Love the butterfly pattern at the cuffs. So unusual.
That is such a sweet story about your Mom and the World Series.

My Mom never watched a pro football or basketball game in her life until my father passed 18 years ago. Now she watches them all the time. I think it makes her feel a little closer to my Dad who she misses terribly.

Precious memories indeed.
:)
