Sunny Window Shelf In Laundry Room
I was lamenting that I wasn't always
able to complete projects
like I did in my younger days.
I therefore didn't have much to share
with you younger bloggers.
Debbie suggested that I share some of the projects
I have done in the past.
I wanted shelving
in front of this laundry room window.
It gets the morning light and is so nice for plants.
Please notice my signature blue. It is everywhere! |
with you younger bloggers.
Can you believe the difference in the lighting? All the pics were taken at the same time, just different angles. |

Does anyone remember Christopher Lowell?
He was a pioneer of the DIY home decorating shows.
On one episode he did this neat little shelf.
Little to no construction.
A wooden rod with deep brackets to give clearance for the shelf. Two laminated shelves in standard size. Marine cord/rope and a paddle drill bit.
My choice of laminate probably wasn't the best for keeping plants but I have learned that shabby isn't
shabby, it's Shabby Chic!
Hey! I bet you could use pallet wood for shelves!
I am not ready to show you the rest of the laundry room, BUT you can see the ceiling. Fancy crown and moulding for a laundry room, huh!
I came to the building site one day and it was up. Not intended but cheaper than taking it down.
I can't leave without remarking about "Billy Bass".
He was a gift to Bob from one of the grandsons.
This is the room I have chosen for it's display.
The grandsons are grown but they never fail to activate
Billy's song on their way thru to the garage.
Never let it be said that I don't appreciate fine art!
Well, it was a while back
but I hope you enjoyed seeing this project.
I love my sunny window shelf!
It makes one a sunny self!

What a fabulous idea for your plants ... wish I had a sunny window in the laundry room. Love it ...
Have a great week ~

What a wonderful project!! Love your sunny shelf!
GREAT shelf! It is a great idea for in front of a window. I love(d) Christopher Lowell. He was WAY ahead of his time and I loved his style. Wonder what he is doing now? It seems like a lot of the good design shows on HGTV are gone and replaced with some not-so-interesting ones...or maybe it is just me~
What a clever idea for a shelf in front of a window -- and it looks like perfect light for plants!
Ginger, these are such a great idea!
You did a great job and your shelf is awesome. I wish i had a window in my laundry room - sunny or not! sandie
I love the hanging shelves Ginger! They are wonderful. And I adore Christopher Lowell! I just picked up my 3rd C.L. decorating book at a flea market last month. I so miss his show! My personal opinion is he still had the best decorating ideas and how-to's than any of the shows since. I learned so much from him.
This is an awesome idea! Do you have problem with the shelves swinging uncontrollably? Found you through Uncommon Slice of Surburbia linky party. Best, My
It has a garden feel. Nice.
Love this project and it looks so great in your window!
I loved Christopher Lowell! This idea is so cute! And Billy Bass is just too funny!!
Hi Ginger, your laundry room is very very nice, I like the color blue. Reminds me of my bedroom in my former home. The daisy canister is familiar too, I made a set for my mother in ceramics years ago. xo
What a great idea Ginger, I am so glad you shared this with us! It looks so pretty and I love the crown molding in there too! Hope you show us more of this pretty room:)
Love your window shelves...very clever! I miss the days of good decorating shows! Can't wait to see the rest of the room too :o)

What a great idea for a shelf. Your laundry room looks so bright and cheery. Hope you have some of the pretty crown molding in the rest of your home.
I'm glad to be your newest follower, Mary Alice
What a great idea, Ginger. And the perfect place too! I love the color of your laundry room. This may a project that isn't new to you, but it is to us! I hope you'll share more. Oh man - I used to love me some Christopher Lowell. Back in the day - I made sure to record his show on my high tech vcr on my high tech vhs video tape. Another one around about the same time was Lynette Jennings. Loved her too.
A perfect solution for the window over my sink. It used to look outside till the patio was enclosed. Now it looks into my craft/laundry/computer room! I was just telling hubby that I thought a shelf would look good there!
And, I remember Christopher Lowell - I loved watching him! Cool!
Hugs, GraceinAZ
Dearest Ginger,
That is a very clever solution for a great purpose! Well done.
I am late but I was really heavy hearted for a couple of days. You missed my post from yesterday... that explains it all. Today I feel a lot better, at least after sleeping in to catch up.
Love to you,
Mariette
Great job on the project! And yes, I do remember Christopher Lowell. And I like your canisters... the basketweave looks like Belleek, which I love. Plus, I also love your crown molding! SO pretty!
Best,
Gloria
What a super way to jazz up the laundry room, not one of the most interesting place to be lingering in,whilst making the most of all the natural light for your plants,
Ginger this window shelf is fabulous! Great job!
What a great idea, I love it! Not only functional but it looks really cool too:@)
Ginger, please keep your "old" projects coming. I love this and bet you have inspiration after inspiration to share. I do remember watching Christopher Lloyd. He was goofy, but his ideas were really good.
This is a keeper. I also love how you store things in pretty containers. This is the second post in less than 24 hours that has me wanting to start scouring about for containers instead of leaving things in boxes.
Love the shelf and the idea for your plants! WOW! Hugs and blessings, Cindy
Oh i love your shelf. How perfect. Thanks tons for joining TTT. Hugs, Marty
Love the shelf..such a creative project and perfect for the plants!..
Ginger, yes, I remember Christopher well. Liked his first show better than the last one. Your shelves are awesome. Terrific idea for that space. Love it. Thanks for posting it. Helen
Ginger that Debbie is so smart! How fun to see some older projects you have done. This one is awesome and I do remember Christopher Lowell...he inspired me! That shelf is so cute and clever. Hugs, Linda
I love your sunny shelves, very nautical! Christopher had some very creative ideas!
Audrey
Oh gosh, rembmber when everyone had a Billy Bass...So funny! This is a great idea for plants! I thought my, that is a fancy laundry room with corn molding! My washer and dryer are in the garage, guess you won't ever be seeing my laundry room LOL!
Carol
I totally forgot about Christopher Lowell, but I miss all those HGTV and other famous decorators from back in the 90's. The executives at HGTV have lost their minds with the garage on their network now. I got sick of the network years ago and do not really watch anymore unless Sarah Richardson is on. Too bad the network doesn't recognize talent.
Thank you for poining out Billy Bass. My grandfather used to have one of those and played it all the time. Actually, if it made noise, it was probably in his house. Clocks were his biggest thing and he'd set them all 5 minutes apart to hear the noise.
One made bird chirps, another was trains, and a coo-coo clock. I'm sure there was at least another one, but these things went on for at least 15 minutes. Drove everyone else nuts (especially my grandmother who lived with it every hour, every day), but these things all made him happy.
I totally forgot Billy until I saw him on your wall. How fun that your grandsons have something from their younger years that still brings them such pleasure at your house.
But wait, I guess I should have been talking about the shelves, huh? I ramble way too much! Those seem like a very creative way to take advantage of "wasted" space in a room that is mainly for function. The color in the flowers make your room come to life. I love the blue wall color. I had a similar color in my tv room for years. It's very calming and pretty.
Thanks for linking this to my party!
Hi Ginger, those shelves are great! Love the look of the rope, and yes, I'd bed a more rustic rope and pallet wood would look great as well. I remember Christopher Lowell. I still think about a project he shared years ago that I really liked. And Billy Bass...he's just too good to be true :)
Absolutely smart shelve! Everything is perfect.
Happy mid-week.
Greetings from a snowy Stockholm,
/chie
Hi lovely lady.

XXOO Diane
That's a nifty little shelf, I love all your houseplants. I don't have a single sunny window in my house!
What a great idea! I want to do this in my laundry room. Wonder whatever happened to Christopher? Haven't seen him in awhile. laurie
Ginger, your hanging shelf is a great way to enjoy plants without taking up always-needed laundry room counter space. I'm sure you've enjoyed it immensely through the years. (Yes, I do remember Christopher Lowell -- and Lynette Jennings, too!)
Good Morning,
I'm stopping by from Katherine's Corner. I love what you have done with the window and the wall color is beautiful. I have a window with no other purpose but to let light in the laundry room. I think I can handle this project. But guess what? Our previous owners had wallpaper border up!!! I've looked at the beach scene border in there for about 8 years. If I do the window that's going to make me do other stuff ;-) Getting ready to like you on FB.
I do remember Christopher Lowell. I love the shelves. I would love to have some. I will show them to hubby.
What a great idea. Visiting via Catherine's. Hope you'll visit and follow my blog. Donna

I would never think to put shelves in front of a window for plants, what a great idea and it looks so nice. Love the story behind Billy Bass!!

I found you at the Thursday blog hop at Katherine's Korner. Congratulations on hosting. I am now a new follower.

I love the shelf! Very nice! That was actually a really cool idea. Now, if only I have a window like that to work on.
Love these shelves Miss Ginger what a wonderful idea.. and your woodland table scape is fabulous!!
hugs from me happy weekend...
Hey Ginger,
I remember Christopher Lowell and what a cute idea for a plant shelf.
I know what you mean about finishing projects...I have very few projects that I can do that won't cost an arm and a leg..like totally remodeling the kitchen. Thanks for sharing this cute project...and Billy Bass.
I remember "him".
Hi Ginger,
