HAPPY BIRTHDAY DINNER!!

Yesterday was my birthday.

Bob asked where I would like to go for dinner, to celebrate.
As usual I named my favorite, locally owned spot
for awesome Grouper and fantastic Shrimp.
This is a local bar and restaurant that is off the beaten path.
Just before you reach Wormsloe Plantation and Isle Of Hope.
It is crowded every night of the week as many of the neighbors stop off at the bar after work.
Their menu and execution rivals and exceeds
the restaurants listed in the tourist guide.

We had a leisurely day. We rode around the island in the golf cart, observed the turtles sunning by the lagoons, the egrets standing motionless and a Great Blue Heron poking around for lunch. (I didn't take my camera, it was our time)

About five-thirty we left for dinner. You have about a fifteen minute window of time to find a parking spot
and a table.
We had to make an emergency stop at the Kroger pharmacy for Coreg (I had let my self run out). Well, everyone and his brother had let their meds run out also. The line backed up into
the cleaning supply aisle. What a bummer!

                                   My thoughts were here!
When we got to the restaurant the parking lot was overflowing. The only parking was across and down the street. That meant people were waiting for a table. We missed
our fifteen minute window while I was lollygagging

or just gagging in the cleaning aisle.

What to do?

Bob was NOT about to make the decision. I suggested that neither of us felt like walking or waiting.

What to do?

It was up to me to come up with a decision!
YUP! That's where I chose to go!
You have to know that growing up in the south we are all too familiar with Krystal burgers. We were Krystal fans when they were 5each. We had been seeing their commercials on tv recently and both of us would say, "Boy, a few Krystals would taste good."
Do not attempt to count the number eaten. If you guess correctly, I will lie, lie, lie!
Well, they did taste sooooo good! No sides, that is sacrilege. Besides, saves more room for those tasty little burgers. Of course there was homemade iced tea.

Now's hows that for a cheap date?

The Driftaway Cafe, you say?
Oh, that's this weekend...early!

Disclosure:
I was not paid for this testimonial. I stole the pictures off their website here. If, after reading my comments, they wish me to remove the pictures, I will oblige.

Blessings for a wonderful week.

Happy Birthday ... mine was the day before yours ... and I also ended up with carry-out instead of the dine-in dinner that was planned ... different circumstances, but still ... and yes, we also plan on the restaurant experience this weekend. I'm looking forward to my Chilean Sea Bass :) Hope you get to enjoy your dinner this weekend.

I would think free advertising would be welcome so your probably safe with the photos. I have never had such a burger myself. I'm aries as well, the 3rd, & my guilty pleasure was ice cream cake from DQ. What fun. I hope you thoroughly enjoyed your burgers and your company! Hugs. Tammy

Happy Birthday! A good hamburger is hard to beat. My hubby would eat them often if I fixed them. Or if we're out and about. Hope you had a great day!

Happy, Happy Birthday, Ginger. I love the sweet little place you ended up. I have not had a Krystal burger since I left the South. I think they are mostly south of the Mason-Dixon line. And here I thought your husband was being naughty when he said you were a cheap date! Who knew?;>) xo Diana

Sounds like you had a wonderful birthday in spite of not being able to eat at your favorite restaurant. It looks like the perfect place though. I much prefer the out of the way places that the locals frequent to the popular touristy places. How fun to be able to ride around in a golfcart and take in the sights. Happy birthday to you my sweet and dear friend. xo

Aw, man!!!! I was SO hoping you were going to miraculously find a parking space and get right in to the restaurant! (That food looked so good! What was that on the side...purple cauliflower?) Well, at least there's this weekend, and in the meantime you were able to enjoy another favorite guilty pleasure!

The Driftaway looks like a great place to hang and relax! I LOVE that patio area!!!!!!! The size of those ferns is just unbelievable!!!

Happy Birthday, sweet Ginger!

Oh, Ginger. We have been talking about Krystal Burgers, too. Can I sniff the wrappers? I don't know why they aren't in NC!!!

A very happy birthday to you! I laughed at your fun post. You see I grew up in the land of the Krystal burger (I even worked there in college!) and know the yummyness of which you speak! They are amazingly good. How did you resist their scrumptious pecan pie?!
Hope you enjoy your REAL night out this weekend. (But I think you got TWO great dates!)
Hugs,
Patti

Happy belated birthday, Ginger! Sorry your favorite restaurant didn't work out...but Krystal burgers! I grew up in Alabama and we didn't have one in my little town but on the way to my uncle's home in Roswell, Ga, there was a Krystals. We always stopped and got some of those little cute delish burgers! Loved them. I haven't had one in probably 40 plus years!
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)

Ginger, Fred and I might be making a pilgrimage northward, and if we do, I would love to meet you all for lunch in Savannah. Not sure if and when this is going to happen, but I think it would be great fun to get together!

Sheila
