is our answer to Mardi Gras!

One of the favorites of the parade is
There six "Hitches" teams. Five of these teams travel.
One remains at the old brewery
in St. Louis, Mo. and one traveling team is based in St. Louis. two are based in California, one in Texas, one is based in New Hampshire.

The team is brought into town a few days prior to the parade
and the public is allowed to visit them.
Bob and I went to the other side of town to visit
these awesome creatures Thursday.
We arrived when most were being feed, in their stalls.
The stalls looked too much like jail cells to me
so I am not sharing the inside photos.
I like the action shots better.
There was one pair of Clydesdales being put through
their paces by their trainer. What a fabulous job!

I had better keep my day job which is taking care of Bob!
We have seen these beautiful animals in St. Louis,
Busch Gardens, Tampa, Fl. We have enjoyed them in
Savannah, Ga.'s St. Patrick's Day parades for years.
My daughter, Hollie, from Nashville, Tn. was here for the parade.
We were talking about previous parades and the festivities
leading up to the big day. We were discussing the many times
we had visited the Clydesdales at their staging areas
and local appearances.
Hollie recalled the time when, she was very young, she thought the horses were following us as we made our rounds for the day.

I laughed and said, "They were not following us, I had their appearance schedule for the day and I was following them so you, your brother and sister could enjoy them longer (me too).
Bob and I didn't go to the parade this year, we watched on tv but
Hollie and her hubby went so I'll share her pics a little later.

I saw the clydesdales once a long time ago. Beautiful animals! Love your falling shamrocks! Hope you can stop by the enchanted oven.

Aren't they beautiful animals? We see them often because they represent Busch beer made in Milwaukee, WI, so they are often in the parades around here. I think there are 5 or 6 teams of them that travel all over for parades and, if I am not mistaken, they are kept in St. Louis, MO, in between.

Looks like you have a fun time on St. Patrick's Day! The clydesdales use to be in williamsburg Busch Gardens but they sold it to another company and now they are gone ;-(

You are very correct about the Clydesdales. I was born and raised here in St. Louis, MO. The Clydesdales and Anheuser Busch are as much a part of our culture here as Cardinal baseball!
We have visited them out at the farm where they are raised and also at Grant's Farm where they house some of them. The most impressive thing is when the team comes out before the baseball game at Busch Stadium.
Call me sentimental but I get a tear in my eye every time I see them. I think they are the most beautiful and amazing animal.

That is SO cool, Ginger!!!!! SO cool!!! Have you seen that commercial with the Clydesdale who grows up with the trainer and then gets shipped off to do parades only to be reunited later? That makes me sniffle every time I see it!!! You did a good job on the video, too! It turned out really good! Happy St. Patrick's Day!
Happy St. Paddy's Day to you. We did not have any Clydesdale horses in our parade but we did have other horses.
I have always wanted to go the the Parade in Savannah...I should one day take my granddaughter to see it...as she is a St. Patrick's Day Birthday Girl....Thanks for sharing the pics and look forward to seeing the pics that Hollie took! Have a great week!

I'm going to remember Savannah is a closer place to visit for St. Patrick's Day than Ireland! I've never seen the Clydesdale horses and I would love that. Beautiful photo. Sure hope Bob is better, you both are in my thoughts and prayers.

We have some at our stables.. They call them "hay horses" here because they pull HUGE carts of hay. They are huge monsters aren't they? big poops too *wink*

My first visit here. I have heard a lot about St Patrick’s Day in Savannah – I heard y’all go crazy down there! I need to drive down sometimes and see the festivities. Do you color the Savannah River green?

I know St Patrick's Day in Savannah is a big big deal, I found out it's a big party weekend, no rooms were available once when I was thinking of coming down
I live 125 miles from St Louis where some of the Clydesdales live and only 22 miles from their breeding farm in Boonville Mo
they are beautiful animals
