Time To Cool Down!

It is sweltering in Savannah this time of year!
Everyone is looking for a way to keep cool!
I thought this might be a good time to review our
50th anniversary tour of Alaska.
Grab a glass of iced tea and
come along, you might find it refreshing.
Mendenhall Glacier
This was my third visit, in 25 years, to Mendenhall Glacier, Tongass National Forest, near Juneau, AK. I can attest to the fact that the glacier is receding. I don't know why. It might be natural cyclical environmental patterns or manmade global warming (I will let others debate that) but it is indeed receding. I wish my earlier pictures were digital. We have held our pictures side by side and we can surely tell the difference.

My oldest daughter Kim and me.

Sweet Old Bob was experiencing health problems during this time so our daughter went with us. Shortly after the trip Bob had brain surgery. His health has improved greatly and
he gets along very well now. For that we are very thankful.

Glacier Bay

Margerie Glacier is 1 mile wide and 800 feet high from sea level to the top

Preparing to leave on a flight over Juneau Ice Fields, from Skagway.
Put your iced tea on the traytable,
buckle up and enjoy the ride .

These are not super highways in the mountains, they are glaciers.

We are coming back down into Skagway.
You can see the terminus of a glacier at the upper left. The gray water is called "rock water" due to the amount of ground rock suspended in the water.
Don't you feel refreshed now? I knew you would! I hope you enjoyed the tour. Refill your iced tea, put your fingers on the keyboard and leave a comment to let me know you took the tour. Thanks for visiting.

My favorite cruise was the Alaskan one. Your pictures brought back wonderful memories.

It cooled me off - just what I needed - and I went to Alaska three years ago and so all this up close and personal. The glaciers are receding. And isn't that blue aqua color in them spectacular?

Amazing trip Ginger, my friend. I love glaziers...we were in the south of America, the Argentinian Patagonia and Chile in the most incredible glaziers in January. We went on a Celebrity Cruise. In the south, these are like Alaska. Enjoy your COOL trip. Lots of hugs. FABBY

Hi Ginger, We're not too hot yet up here in CT but I know it is coming soon! I would love to visit Alaska someday. My husband has been there and my daughter backpacked through the wilderness for a month a few years ago, and it was a wonderful experience! I'm planning a trip to Savannah with my mom who wants to revisit some of the sites she saw with my dad a number of years ago.. I'm waiting till it cools down a bit though--maybe in the fall! Linda

Beautiful images, Ginger...a sure fire cooler for a hot summer day. I didn't know that SweetOldBob had brain surgery. So did my husband...several years ago. It is life altering, isn't it? xo Diana

GORGEOUS!!!!!! This is breathtaking to me. Now, I want to go to Alaska.
Living inland of Savannah (read... hot with not a whiff of ocean breeze...) I sure could go there right now. Instead, I will have a cold glass of water and enjoy your pics again.

Dearest Ginger,

So glad to read that Bob is doing better since than! Health is the most precious thing in life.
On the border with Alaska, in British Columbia, our adopted daughter Liz is born. If I look at the harsh climatic conditions overthere, it is hard for me to imagine living there. I'm not good in cold areas. One time we did consulting in North Dakota in January and they had -40 degree Fahrenheit! NEVER again, I ended up having afterwards a six week long bronchitis.
But nature of course is breathtaking in Alaska and you don't go there in mid winter!

Lots of love,

Mariette
