Cheap Fall Decorations

From Field to Table!
Some of you know that a couple of weeks ago I was visiting my two dear daughters. One lives in Illinois and the other lives in Tennessee.

While in Illinois we made some small decorations from NOTHING.

She lives in Southern Illinois and owns a small farm

She leases out the farmland

Is it too late to find a baseball field on the other side?
Kevin Costner here I Come!
Maybe Not! To late in the season!

Anyhoo! This is where we got some of our material!
When you get in there you can't hear anyone.
I don't know if it is just the time of year but it was spooky.
I got lost in the field and thought I'm  in "Children of the Corn".
You really can get lost.
Why do you think they build mazes in corn fields?

We fought the squirrels for every bit of trim.
I still have tooth marks on my hand.

Most everything came from the yard, the corn field or that
"Dang Squirrel's Mouth"
The silk leaves came from Dollar Tree.

How much corn could two girls shuck
If two girls could shuck corn?
Answer: A bushel and a peck or
A LOT!!

We made twenty plus
We gave most to family and friends
Of course we kept a few

These are the two that I kept.
I had to fight that girl for these!
You will see them again a little later

Hope you enjoyed our
Cheap Fall Decorations!

I bet you had a super time with those precious granddaughters! We used to play tag in the corn AT NIGHT. That was really fun. You had to learn to watch the moon to find your way home. And watch out for those sharp husks in your eye.

Great decorations and the price sure was right. What a great surprise gift for family and friends and to think most of it came just from the fields around the house. Here I was at Michael's today spending $$$ trying to get similar supplies. DUH

Thanks for sharing, oh and I have a daughter who lives in Illinois too.

Really cute fall decorations, and can't beat the price!!

You asked why people build mazes in corn fields - A few I've read about said they did it to make money, with the failing economy it was a good way for income.

We used to play in the corn at my grandfather's house - this made me miss him (he lives far away now) but brought back a lot of great memories. Thanks!

Cheap or not -- those are the quintessential Fall decoration! My Mom always had a bunch of Indian corn hung on the front door -- behind the screen door so the squirrels wouldn't get it.

I always hung it outside the storm door, figuring the birds or squirrels needed it more than I. And my kids used to like seeing it disappear gradually!

Wow -- I haven't seen any corn like this around here lately. Maybe I'm not looking hard enough!

Thanks for introducing your self at That Old House, and visiting. I'm delighted to meet you, Ginger, and i'll be back.

Welcome to blogging!

Your corn bundles look lovely. Aside from the "shucking," they look like they were fun to make!
