HAVE A LOVE AFFAIR WITH CHAIRS?

YOU SHOULD!
OTHERWISE YOU WOULD BE STANDING ALL DAY!

I was recently contacted by One Kings Lane and asked to help introduce their
"Home Decor Resource Guide"

I was asked to choose a "Statement Chair" in my home to share.
Just what is a "Statement Chair"?
Do you have one, do you even want one?
After consulting One Kings Lane's Home Decor Resource Guide,  I discovered I had several "Statement Chairs". I absolutely loved the guide, it was chock full of helpful information and included  furniture of all styles from pre-1600 to present. I had so much fun researching the history of several styles, I had to make myself stop.
In my humble opinion, a statement chair is first, one that you love, second, it immediately catches the eye when one enters the room. It is usually unique in design or color as to make it stand out.  It can be any style or period. When I consulted the guide I discovered, I wasn't too far off.
I have never posted anything in this guest room. Not sure why, as I do love the room. This slipper chair was purchased by my daughter along with one very similar but just a bit larger. I am thinking this is the "Lady' chair and hers is the "Gent" chair. Our fellows have to put on their shoes as well. Kim was kind enough to share with me as she always does.
The room, as the chair, has a French feel to it. The paper rose wreath above the chair and the armoire are from France.
 This chair is the perfect spot for my guest to sit, slip off her shoes and catch up on places to go and things to see in Savannah.
Everyone who steps into this room absolutely loves this chair.
~~~~~~
I believe every room needs a bit whimsy and that includes the
"Statement Chair".
I know some of you have seen this chair and its story here
If you grew up in the 50s and 60s you remember this forerunner of today's recliner. When I screamed with glee at finding this in a second hand store, it was covered in the appropriate turquoise Naugahyde.
This lounge provides a quiet place to rest in the master bedroom. I kept the turquoise Naugahyde, with hubby's disapproval for a while. Yes, it still works after all these years.
This is one of those fun chairs! When most people see it for the first time they say,"My dad or my grandpa had one of those". They always want to give it a try or ride it as my grandsons used to say. I guess you can call this one a "Statement Chair".
One King's Lane says, "Just remember that every room in your home doesn't have to have the same aesthetic. As long as there's a general flow and you're comfortable, carry on! ".
Be sure to check out their Home Decor Resource Center, the information is timely, helpful and you won't be able to tear yourself away.
(I wasn't compensated in any way for this post and all opinions are my own. )
Sadly enough, the statement chair in our house is the one that woefully pleads, "Drop me off at a frat house where I belong!!!" :-)
Mmmmmm....I guess the statement chairs in our home would be those in our library. They are big, brown leather chairs that say, "You know you want to sit on me, girl. Get on over here with your fine self." Or something like that...you get the picture! (How sad! The only saucy talk I get around here is imaginary chat from chairs!!!)
Neat post, Ginger! I love the story or your pre-recliner!
Dearest Ginger,
You never cease to surprise us! This is a lovely post and the way you styled that statement chair with those shoes and purse + Savannah magazines is priceless! You got enough styling for filling a magazine with interesting reading.
Happy weekend and hugs to you!
I like them both! We've lots of different chairs in our home. Guess the statement ones would be my MacKenzie-Childs flower basket chairs, our metal work chairs from Marrakech, and our antique Thonet pieces.
I LOVE your "statement" chairs, Ginger. So much so that I couldn't even pick one if I tried. Your styling is amazing! I am such a klutz at such things, lol...
I actually have two "statement" chairs. A chaise with it's original upholstery which for the life of me I can't think of what the pattern is called at the moment. And, a bent wood chair which is quite a conversation starter. One day I must share:)
I just love this post, Ginger and I adore your spirit! Thank you so much for sharing, I'm off to nighty night and I will probably be dreaming of my next "statement" chair, lol...
I like both of your statement chairs. I'm afraid I don't have one. I've thought about having one but then it wouldn't go with the rest of my "decor" ;-)
Hi Ginger,
Like you, I have a favorite chair. Mine is not a pretty blue color, but brown leather.
I do love your blue teal color.
Thanks for sharing.
Have a Happy Blue Monday!
I am sure one of my old chairs could make a statement, but nothing compared to your beauties.
Now that looks like the perfect chair to sit, relax and read a book.
I'd love one and will now be on the search for something similar.
Wish me luck ;D
I knew I had seen that chair someplace before. Soon as you said turquoise Naugahyde I knew where I had seen it. At my aunt & uncles in St Louis. Theirs was a lime green Naugahyde and it still sets in their house because my male cousin lives in his parents home and it's a step back in time .
Oh I LOVE the way you styled your photo with the kicked off heels! How awesome to be posting for One Kings Lane! Growing up my mother had a thing for chaise lounges, and always always had them in at least one bedroom. I have a statement chair in my kitchen [I know, weird, right?] that I keep dolled up with a seasonal needlepoint pillow.
I love what you said, yes we do need to have a love affair with chairs. You have some purty ones Ginger. XO
Oh my goodness! I remember "riding" one of those chairs!!! I can't remember who had it, but I think it was harvest gold. *wink* Our statement chair hails from my DH's grandparents. It's one of the original wooden recliners with an adjustable brass bar. We keep meaning to look it up on the internet to learn the history.
Where have I been that I missed this great post till now?!
I LOVE One Kings Lane resource guide too! I found it when they asked me about a statement chair as well (post to come!). Anyway, I love YOUR statement chairs, Ginger--both of them, and...by the way...also love those high-heeld shoes!! They, too, make quite a statement! Always fun at Savannah Granny's blog! :)
Thanks for stopping by and for your sweet comments on my winter china cabinet! :) Hugs to you, ~Zuni
I don't think I have seen a chair like that old time "recliner"! Really cool. I forgot about Naugahyde!! We used to have an old Naugahyde red rocker up in our VT cottage as a kid.
Ginger, these are both great statement chairs, and I would love to have either of these in our home. I can't believe the recliner still works, and it looks beautiful in that fabric. I love the way you made the French chair look so at home with the purse, magazine, and spike heels! laurie
