BETTER DAYS IN THE GARDEN!

LAST WEEK I RELATED THE SAD SAGA
OF THE AMARYLLIS
Well there are other areas of the garden that were not touched by the lawn guy.

In 2009 we fenced a portion of the back yard. We have a terrible
problem with those cute little deer. They have a voracious appetite and will eat anything that they can reach.
For various reasons and excuses I did not do my usual
winter preparation in the garden. But then, we didn't have a normal winter so I guess that's OK!
A few lovelies survived the neglect.
This is one of my favorites.
This ivy stayed right where it is all winter through.
There are two of these pots of ivy planted with an iron armature shaped like an obelisk with the Hummingbird on top. I purchased them at a plant sale at Cheekwood Gardens in Nashville, Tn.
This little fellow spent two days on this Calla Lily leaf.
The Calla Lilies have been long gone but this little fellow has found a great spot for lunch.
A wide shot showing theWhite-Flowered Wandering Jew, Inch Plant, Small-leaf Spiderwort, River Spiderwort (Tradescantia fluminensis) or the Jon plant. Jon in grandson not outhouse. This plant has never grown to the ground before. I never bring them in and have never repotted them. They usually die back in winter
and grow a couple of feet or so in the summer. I add additional soil and fertilize them regularly. Since we never had a frost this year, I got this beauty.
Another shot of the ivy and white wandering jew. There is one of each on the other side of the stairs but my garden tools are leaning on those and the azaleas on the other side. That's the
good thing about blogging. I can EDIT!

There are blossoms here and there. The azaleas are finished as are the calla lilies. You know about most of my amaryllis.
This was command central for a couple of days. Gotta get
back out there after the wind and rain clear up. The mums in the left of this picture are blooming again from last fall. I will be whittling that almond down enough to move it. Has a mind of its own but I WILL win!

I didn't get this pruned either. It has spread all over the walk.

So you see, not all is disaster in this Granny's garden. I will be sharing other plants and blossoms as they bloom and I groom.

Please excuse my text today. Blogger is having its way with me and I am tired of fighting!

I party here, join me!

Please leave a comment. I love the sound of your words!!

Ginger,
Everything is so beautiful. I love your ivy. Hope you are doing well. My daughter and I will be in Savannah later this week. She has a conference, and I will be babysitting. Plan a little trip to Tybee while there. I sure hope the weather is good. I could use some warmth. It has been cold and wet here for days! Have a great week!

Have a wonderful week!

Ginger, Your garden is looking great and I LOVE your ivy plants. Our yard is running over with ivy, but I don't have any trained, like yours. I'm going to look for a form at the garden center. Hope your rain has gone.

All of the flowers look beautiful Ginger! I had someone cut the grass last week and he weed whacked all of my mint... Of course that will come back like gang-busters, but I feel your pain. Happy Monday:@)

I think things are coming along nicely, Ginger. Those deer are cute but pesky, too. Love the ivy. I just bought a small ivy topiary plant a month ago, looks like it is not going to make it, I think it needs to be repotted. xo

Ginger, your garden is so beautiful...I battle the deer also...and you seem to do a great job in keeping them away from those gorgeous flowers!!!....

I had no idea wandering jews could make it outside! Do they winter over or did you bring it out and let it thrive for Spring? I love them but not all over the house inside.

I love you garden! The colors, the greenery and even the little buggers, the deer.
Hugs

Love seeing all of your beautiful plants, Ginger. Hard to believe that something as pretty as deer can be so destructive. And how cute is that frog?!?!

It took me a little while to figure out what you were talking about with that leaf. I thought the frog was just a part of the leaf! He really blended in well!!! :-)

I'm glad that you were spared the ravaging you expected over the winter. Your yard is already looking like Spring is here! (Would you believe it is JUST starting to really green up good here?) The amaryllis bouquet on the table is beautiful, and I hope you will be able to salvage more of those after "the lawn guy incident." :-)

I have seen deer jump the fence at the golf course near our house. The fence has to be about 6-ft. tall, but they just jump and jump and jump until they clear it. It's weird! They run rampant around here and often make their way into our yard to snack. They have eaten all of my perennials (pulled them put from THE ROOT!!!) and are always sniffing around to see what crumbs they might have left behind. Rascals!

Have a wonderful day, Ginger! Thank you for sharing your grounds with us!

Dearest Ginger,
So glad you still have pretty things to enjoy in your beautiful garden.
Little deer are cute but not for feeding them with exotic flowers as gourmet food!
Our garden is full of weeds; going away for 11 days on vacation is turning against us... We have the roofers on our home; lots of work going on. One day it will be neat again.
Hugs to you both!

While we have many small critters than cause damage to our two acres of ornamental gardens... we've been blessed in never having a deer visit in forty-two years of gardening... presumably because of being an "island" in farm country as well as farm dogs in the neighborhood... enjoyed seeing your post... I am so happy that some of your plants survived. Although I don't know you, I have fretted so over your garden. I hope your garden finds a way to restore itself. It looks like you really have a green thumb so maybe...

I wish I could have things like that come back! That frog totally blended into that leaf, I did'nt even see it at first! Nature's camouflage! My lilies are a ways off from blooming yet. I do enjoy seeing them! Looks like your garden is moving right along!
