American Pickers In Nashville, Tennessee

AKA
ANTIQUE ARCHEOLOGY

If you are like many of us, you enjoy watching
the fun and popular TV show
"American Pickers"
Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz comb
the American countryside
looking for rusty treasures of the past.
~~~~~~
Those of us who follow regularly
will remember that previous episodes
 had Danielle Colby Cushman,
the spicy tattooed office manager/secretary,
searching for store space in Nashville, Tennessee.
 Danielle located this old factory
in an industrial district of Nashville
Mike and Frank were excited about the location
because of it's historical significance.
It was home to the former Marathon Motor Company.
 Marathon Motor Company built the only
automobile actually built in Nashville.
The Marathon Automobile was manufactured
from 1911 thru 1914.
I truly did take another pair of jeans with me. So happens I had them on in another post.
Thank goodness, I did have on another tee!
The building now houses Antique Archeologyand several trendy and artsy stores. A candy and soda shop are conveniently located next door.
~~~~~~~~~~~
My daughter, Hollie and I arrived
a little after noon
the Saturday before Memorial Day.
The store was already full
and a line of people were waiting to get in.
Fire codes limited the number
of people allowed inside.
It was a beautiful day, not too hot.
The shop generously provided the umbrellas you see.
After about twenty minutes, it was Hollie's and my
turn to enter. Hollie got shy on me.
 Didn't want to appear in print.
The old car door is such a neat entry sign.
~~~~~~~
 The first thing we saw was this neat antique drum set.
I immediately thought about my grandson Jon,
who is majoring in music
at Belmont University, Nashville.
It was an "Oh, I wish he were here!" moment.
 Eye Candy everywhere. So much to see!
There was so much here, it was hard to
know where to start.
What are you looking at, fellow?
~~~~~
One thing I knew, I was not starting here!
I refuse to step upon that thing.
Unless it will record my weight
from the fifties! I remember
weighing on these and receiving my fortune.
I am still waiting for those lottery winnings.
Smile!!
Wonder, the price per gallon
when this baby was pumping gas?
Even I don't remember this one in use.
OK! This one I remember.
Hmmm, thirty cents per gallon. Maybe less!

Since we seem to in "gasoline alley",  do you think
the Marathon autos had to use special Marathon gas?
That would mean I have to use Toyota gas!
Alright, I am tired of this section!
The only fuel needed here is pedal power.
This so neat. I have seen, only one person,
outside of the circus, ride one of these.
He thought he was a big deal.
He wasn't really, he just
had a "big wheel".
Hey Mister! What are you looking at?
~~~~~
HOLLIE! Get off that quacker.
You know I'm out of dimes!
 Hollie loved the bulldog. They may live
in Tennessee but they are UGA fans.
I mean over the top, Christmas tree, fans.
She informed me and the dog
that he wasn't an English Bulldog,
therefore he wasn't really a bulldog.
If you are from Georgia,
you understand.
Great chippy table for all you chippy girls.
Had to throw this in. Neat reproduction
industrial light with Edison type bulb.
There were lots of neat lights.
I had to tell Hollie that this was a time clock.
Not sure if she has ever had
to punch one but I sure did.
The card was punched in that slot in the center.
~~~~~
Did you spy the reason everyone was looking up?
I'm going up! Hollie, come quick.
 I need a boost.
It's Piggly Wiggly and he loves me!
Before we left, Piggly and I
had our carnival photos made.
How many of you still have these photos?
I do, somewhere. Remember, you leaned into
the lens and your face came out
all rounded and distorted. Maybe you made faces
and stuck out your tongue. I did!
You know, tongues are ugly.
I don't have to "weight" on you, I am passing you by!
He is still looking. Fellow, he doesn't mean YOU!
~~~~~~
We saw no celebrities but we had fun. We were cheapskates, we didn't purchase anything.
The antiques were very
pricey and not to my personal taste. We didn't
see anyone else purchase the big ticket items.
The market was fast and furious
for logo merchandise.
I stopped making those purchases long ago
when I ran out of bottom bureau drawers.
We decided that the antiques were props
for presenting the promotional merchandise
but it was a fun outing together.
~~~~~
I hope you enjoyed coming along
to visit
American Pickers

Ginger, I have never been to this place before. May have to check it out in one of our next visit to our son's in Nashville. My son graduated from Belmont. That is why he lives in Nashville. He went to school there and chose to stay. That is a beautiful campus.

So fun! Your posts are always so cheery and witty! I love all that old stuff too! Each item tells quite a story. And I wouldn't go near that scale either!

Dearest Ginger,

That is fun to go to American Packers! But to haul off anything heavy or big, will be tough on a daily shopping. Wonder if they do sell much...
Love,
Mariette

What fun!!! Yes, I saw the episode when they decided to do this!

And I had forgotten that there was a STORE there -- I thought you meant that they were coming to town! Duh!

They did come to our little town to pick and the episode has been on TV -- it was interesting to see a good friend and 2 others that we know. One of the picking spots is across the road from the vet's and I never knew that it contained all of that!

Many people came out to meet them.

Thanks for taking us along. I love going on trips with people through their blogs to places I would be hard pressed to have a chance to visit. Loved seeing what the pickers had picked and had on display! I found your post at No Minimalist Here. Stop in and see me at Quirky Vistas sometime!

I have never been to one of these personally. However, when I visited my sister this year, I saw it so many times on TV, I felt I had been there.

Sounds like a terrific place for a trip down memory lane! Congratulations on keeping your purse snapped shut! I know what it is like to have a houseful of stuff, without adding to it. Sometimes my husband wonders if I am starting my own museum :)

I love that show...this would have been so fun! Walt wonders who buys all this stuff, other dealers?? Maybe it is a write off for their business of TV? Anyway, I would have paid a quarter to go looking! LOL! Looks like you two had a great day!

I am watching American Pickers as I type Ginger.:-) We've talked about taking a little drive up to Iowa and see the original shop.

I enjoyed your post. Lots of fun. I'll show it to J, later. He will like this also.

When I was in high school, gas was 25 cents. In the summertime we would put 50 cents worth in Mother's Chevy, go to river and swim all afternoon then pick Mother up after work and go back to the river, on that 50 cents worth of gas, paid for with soda bottle returns. Happy memories.

Absolutely fascinating and guess what we get the programme you mention on Italian Sky and watch it sometimes.:)

I am so happy to be back here after my enforced break.

I am pretty sure I would have destroyed those scales if they didn't move them out of my sight!!! :-) That's the LAST thing I wanna see!!!!!!! This is very cool, and it looks like a lot of fun. I did notice standing in the line out front a man and his son with KC Royals ball caps on!!!!!! There is a place to eat called Swett's in Nashville. Have you ever heard of it or eaten there? We ate there when we visited a few weeks ago, and it was some of the best food I have ever put in my mouth!!! Ramon said that he and his classmates would eat there years ago when he was in med school. The place is still holding on after all these years!

That looks like a fun way to spend some time! There certainly was alot to see even if the prices were too high to buy.
