I Took Kim's Advice!

It has been said that I don't often take advice!

Not So!!

Kim over at Savvy Southern Style shared her playtime over at Picmonkey. Check out both Kim and the monkey.

Well I decided to visit the monkey because I am missing picnik so much. I took one photo and tried several things with it. I think I may have tried some things
that are different from what Kim showed you.
Hope so!

The original

This was fun...Edifice and Warhol effects
This was done with "zoom focus".
Faded edges to which we are accustomed
This one was "posterized"
I think this was texture feature. So many I lost track.
Another texture effect. Not sure I like this one.
This is one of the script effects. Already had my name on it. Hmmm, OK, it's a cumputer thing. Sure, that's how it knows my name. Spooky!

This is the same as above but I added a frame and butterflies. I liked the frames on picnik much better.

This one is neat. I forgot what it's called.
About this time I was feeling frisky. I decided to see what was on Google+/Picasa.
It was a little harder to navigate but I was able to find some things. There were lots of decorations but I didn't like them.

This was called focus B/W
This is an antiqued effect.
I ♥ this one!
Snap shot effect.
Focus Blur.
Well,  that's it for today. My assessment... Picasa will be OK when I get used to it. Picmonkey is fun but sparse and you can't make collages yet. There are a lot of sites out there but I miss Picnik. I haven't found any neat borders yet.  Big Huge Labs is good for simple mosaics.
I do most of my basic editing in iPhoto that is on my Mac. It suits my simple needs in that catagory.
What have you found out there? Share it with us here.
Lynn at Happier Than A Pig In Mud knows a great effects site but I lost the link. Lynn, can you help us on that one?

I hope you had fun I did.

So pretty! You did good Ginger!! I've been playing around with PicMonkey for awhile now myself. Tried to find something similar to Picnik that I loved!

Ginger, sweet lady, you are so talented, even if you got the idea from Kim, wow, I am so impressed!
Just beautiful your PicMonkey look! I will show my pro-photographer daughter, what my talented friends at blog land do. Thanks for your visit, it sure made me happy! Take care and have a great week.

Ginger, I love all of the effects, but I too am and I photo girl. I do my collages with "Pages" and then do a "Snap shot" and pull it into I photo. My favorite was the one where it was color center and then B&W on the outside, thank you for showing us the possibilities

Hi Ginger, I've been playing around with PicMonkey, too. The more I use it, the more I discover. Can't wait until they have the collage feature up and running!

Hi, Ginger. I really appreciate your comparison. I use Picasa exclusively but have wondered about others. What caught my eye was the one from Picasa with the small oval focus and the green around it, but you didn't mention which that is, and I've never seen it! It's lovely! Do you remember? This was a really helpful post, Ginger. Thanks! ~Zuni

Ginger I like what you did with some of the flowers there - bringing them to them to the front and blur the background.

Great examples, Ginger. You are such a smarty! I edit all of my photos in Picasa. Picmonkey is on my radar, but I haven't played around with it yet. LOVE the zoom focus effect - it kind of draws your eye right in.

I love the site and have been playing for a while now on it. I did my Spring mantel with pic monkey. Your photos are fun Ginger.

You're pics always look so great Ginger. Isn't it funny how we've spent years perfecting photography and now everyone wants their photo's to look like they were taken in 1964. I liked the vintage makeover you did.

Miss talking to you but things have been so crazy here and it seems that they continue to be.

Okay, fine...I need to go play here. I have been using Pixlr which was integrated into Photobucket. It is limited, but so is my knowledge of photo fixing. I need lessons! LOL!
Thanks, Ginger! You gave me inspiration.

Hi Ginger, thanks for sharing the photo info. I miss Picnic like crazy, and I'd just learned to navigate my way around. I'm using photoshop some, but I find it complicated. Your photos are great and I think you've done a great job learning to navigate your way around.
Hope your week is great.

All your 'effects' are great! I'm a Picassa user; however, Photobucket is another choice you might try!

I am so glad you had fun with that. You really went crazy didn't you. I haven't even tried all of those yet.

Hi Ginger- When PicMonkey sent me the e-mail that they had gone live- I immediately went over to play. The site is progressing along nicely- I'm now waiting for the collage/mosaic effects to be launched. I like to use Photoscape, Picasa, and PicMonkey together because they each offer something unique. Have fun playing!

I've been using Picasa for making collages, but I have never tried any of the other features on there. I never had a chance to try Picnik, so I have nothing to compare Picasa to! Seems a LOT of people used and loved Picnik. Too bad they're gone! I'm still trying to get the hang of collages. I'm not a very patient person when I sit down to the computer, so it will probably be this time NEXT year before I get it!!! ;-) Have a happy day, Ginger!!!

Hi Ginger!

I'm with you on the Picnik frames, miss them. Your flower sure takes on a different quality/mood with the editing you did. Thanks for sharing.

I just wish I could fine ONE program that can do all it all... So tired of taking a picture all around to get it all prettied up. Right now I am rally lost since my PC went down.

Btw. I tried out Windows Live Writer today on a new post. Wasn't any quicker but maybe it will get easier.

I love picmonkey too and use it all the time. I make my collage in picassa and then tweak it in picmonkey!
