I Really Don't Know!

Seriously, I need help!
I have no idea what these little fabric rectangles are or for what they may be used.
Any ideas out there.
They are a batiste like fabric but they are slightly sheer, as seen here.
Kim found these in a thrift shop. There are ten but five of them have small holes. Possibly from insects or enzymes from stains.
I washed and lightly starched them. They are a pale shrimp color with the darker rooster.
We thought they may be cocktail napkins but the size, shape and the casual rooster design nixed that idea.
Maybe we are wrong...cocktail? They sure are sheer for a napkin, wouldn't stop a spill for me.
This is closer to the true color.
We even thought they might be supplies. Maybe a pocket for an apron but they are nicely finished on all sides.
We purchased ten...maybe they were a set of twelve.
Each measures 8.25 X 5 inches.
Come on Ladies!
What's It?

Not sure what they are, but they could make a cute applique on an apron, or on a quilt. I could picture them appliqued onto the top of a vintage style apron. Sorry I'm not more help!

I was going to say "coaster" but too thin for that, right? Maybe just appliques for a small tea towel or cloth? xo

Oh, whatever they are they are sooo cute!
And with roosters being so 'in' lately, they would make great addition to a country decor.
I would probably try to use some toughfer fabric (maybe linen, flour sacks or even burlap) to make place mats.
I think the mixture of textures could be interesting.
Have a great day, Ginger!

I don't know what they are but I love them! I'm sure you will think of some clever way to use them. I love the little red roo and the red finished hem on the outside.
Please share your creative work after you decide what to do with them.
Have a lovely evening.

You know my hubby's grandmother had several of these and they were downstairs where she kept all the stuff she played bridge with. They all met at her house and played round tables. I always assumed they were used to set under a glass on the bridge table...but...that was just a guess on my part.

Yours are really cute! xo Diana

maybe... they were practice pieces from a class they gave showing how to use an embroidery machine lol

I think they are stylish napkins or someone's idea of a stylish napkin:) I would make a bunting for the kitchen out of these beauties.

Cocktail napkins that you fold in 1/3s ... they are so pretty. Lucky you.

Sales have been keeping us very busy. I'm slowly getting around. Plus we had company for a week.

Hope you have a beautiful weekend, my friend.

I don't have a clue either, but I agree they are pretty. I will be interested to see what you finally use them for.

Hi, Ginger. I'm pretty sure they're cocktail napkins. My mother and MIL have these types of tiny napkins, and my mother still uses them when serving apéritifs (before-dinner drinks) or digestifs (post-dinner drinks) in small cordial glasses. They would look very pretty on the edge of a small tray with a few cordials on it. The suggestion above to fold them in thirds is perfect! :) ~Zuni

I had no clue but read every comment because I wanted to find out. I think Zuni is right about them being little cocktail napkins. They're pretty!

Oh I love a good mystery and you seem to have one here. I read all the comments hoping to find the definitive answer. What will you do with them? I'd use a linen background and turn them into envelope pillows. (This is not inspired. It's what I do with everything when I'm unsure of what to do.) Oh, perhaps a runner would look pretty with an alternating fabric between.
