IS IT SPRING YET? PLEASE!!!

IT'S COMING!!
IT REALLY IS!
MONDAY, MARCH 17TH
SAVANNAH, GEORGIA'S 2014
SAINT PATRICK'S DAY PARADE

THE OFFICIAL BEGINNING OF SPRING!
(IN SAVANNAH, THAT IS!)

Beannachtai na Feile Padraig oraibh!

(St. Patrick’s Day Blessings upon you).

The celebration of Saint Patrick's Day began first in Boston in 1737.

This year will be the 190th Saint Patrick's Day parade in Savannah, Ga. It started as a religious holiday and many Irish Catholics still begin the day by going to mass.  The Grand Marshall, Dave Roberts and his staff will exit The Cathedral Of Saint John The Baptist, after Saint Patrick's Day Mass and take their place as the leaders of this year's parade.

I will tempt you with a few scenes of years past

promising you 2014 scenes soon!

  1. Long time no see, my friend! So glad you popped in to celebrate spring. This parade looks like such fun. And is it the Savannah River they turn green?

I particularly love the men in kilts. And the soldiers. And the green model T. And the Clydesdales. Fun times!

So glad to see you and hope you and Bob and family have been well!

    xo

  6. Dearest Ginger,
That makes one happy to look at such a sunny day with St. Patrick's parade.
We're not yet there though as the wind today was so cold and mean, making the RealFeel temperature below freezing again.
I'm slowly catching up on things and it's good also for emotionally digesting everything from the past couple of weeks.
Tomorrow an AT&T technician will hopefully tackle the on/off internet connection we're dealing with. Over the phone I was told that yes, indeed we'd been disconnected 1,000 over the past month. Considering that we were gone for 15 days that sounds horrible!
It has been driving me nuts that's a fact.
    Hugs to both of you,
    Mariette

  10. That is quite the parade. We don't have a St. Patrick's Day parade here, but that is probably in part to it is usually pretty nasty weather still on March 17th. How fun and I am looking forward to spring too.

  11. LOL - I think I can remember on one hand - the nice days we've had for St. Paddy's day - more often then not it's freezing cold and sometimes snowing - and we still have one of the largest parades in North America so I guess the Irish are a tough strain of people LOL !!!
I'd like to spend it just once in a warm climate - must be AMAZING!!!

  12. Bring on Spring, Ginger! It has been a cold winter here in NOLA. We just had Mardi Gras here, so I know a parade in Savannah will be fun. xo
