Most of the plants are Indica Formosa. I have forgotten the names of the others. Help, Mariette, do you know the others!
We were having breakfast when I saw them. Bob started to run them off but I asked him to get my camera first and wait a few minutes to scatter the little buggers.

so that gives you an idea of the size of the plants.

Your yard looks so pretty! We had a problem with the deer jumping our fence and eating our garden. We planted Castor plants and they don't even come near the fence now. I love the deer but I hate them eating my plants!

I grew up in the country on a big farm so I know the problems the deer can cause, but they are so beautiful and gentle I always hated when we had to run them off. Your azaleas are just gorgeous though, not meant for breakfast! Glad you were able to get a few shots first. Thanks for sharing them with us.

ReplyDeleteI have an azalea question if you have time to answer it. I have two azaleas just a few feet apart and one is covered with blooms and the other has none. Could they be different varieties? Are there some azaleas that bloom at different times of the season?

Having azaleas that grow that tall and full surely is one advantage to living in the South! Ours just get going good around here, and then POW! Knocked out!
ReplyDeleteDeer are my nemesis. They have eaten so much stuff from our yard that I have just given up. I thought putting in a fence might stop them, but then witnessed several of them actually jumping the fence at the golf course. I knew that would not be money well-spent if keeping them out was my only purpose in having it installed. They're neat to look at, but boy, they really rub me the wrong way! I will forgive them their trespasses (and trespassing!) in this Easter week, though. :-) Have a blessed and happy Easter, Ginger!

ReplyDeleteSorry, I can't help you out identifying your azaleas, just from this picture... Would need a very good closeup. Yours are HUGE! Naturally, it's Savannah and the year when I took Mom & Dad out to Savannah it looked like PARADISE.
You are lucky for having deer that close to your lens! However, they do have big stomachs that need to be filled daily and that is not good news for the garden... The deer might think: We were here first... it's all ours. So the nice balance, having huge azaleas for sharing and having a camera to share with all your readers that never ever have such a sight.

ReplyDeleteGinger, Those little rascals! Glad you got a couple of photos and they didn't eat all your gorgeous azaleas. Our early azaleas had started blooming and then we had to nights of freezing temps and now they're mostly brown from the freeze. Thanks for sharing yours and the "treat" of seeing the deer.

To further the explanation (now that you've told me the origin), "juzgao" is a slang/incorrect word (it's "jusgado"), and yet it made it into the English language in the slang version! Language is so interesting! Thank you for sharing that!

Oh, I hope they know what they're doing! My M,I,L, fed their goats cuttings from an azalea bush, it made several of them very, very sick. Gorgeous view - love seeing all the azaleas in the garden - this is going to be a gorgeous spring! I do appreciate you sharing with Home and Garden Thursday,

I tried to keep azaleas growing in my yard but the deer thought they were dessert!...Glad they were behind the fence!...We counted over 25 deer last night when we were traveling back home from dinner!!
