American Pickers In Nashville, Tennessee

AKA
ANTIQUE ARCHEOLOGY

If you are like many of us, you enjoy watching
the fun and popular TV show
"American Pickers"
Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz comb
the American countryside
looking for rusty treasures of the past.
~~~~~~
Those of us who follow regularly
will remember that previous episodes
 had Danielle Colby Cushman,
the spicy tattooed office manager/secretary,
searching for store space in Nashville, Tennessee.
 Danielle located this old factory
in an industrial district of Nashville
Mike and Frank were excited about the location
because of it's historical significance.
It was home to the former Marathon Motor Company.
 Marathon Motor Company built the only
automobile actually built in Nashville.
The Marathon Automobile was manufactured
from 1911 thru 1914.
I truly did take another pair of jeans with me. So happens I had them on in another post.
Thank goodness, I did have on another tee!
The building now houses Antique Archeologyand several trendy and artsy stores. A candy and soda shop are conveniently located next door.
~~~~~~~~~~~
My daughter, Hollie and I arrived
a little after noon
the Saturday before Memorial Day.
The store was already full
and a line of people were waiting to get in.
Fire codes limited the number
of people allowed inside.
It was a beautiful day, not too hot.
The shop generously provided the umbrellas you see.
After about twenty minutes, it was Hollie's and my
turn to enter. Hollie got shy on me.
 Didn't want to appear in print.
The old car door is such a neat entry sign.
~~~~~~~
 The first thing we saw was this neat antique drum set.
I immediately thought about my grandson Jon,
who is majoring in music
at Belmont University, Nashville.
It was an "Oh, I wish he were here!" moment.
 Eye Candy everywhere. So much to see!
There was so much here, it was hard to
know where to start.
What are you looking at, fellow?
~~~~~
One thing I knew, I was not starting here!
I refuse to step upon that thing.
Unless it will record my weight
from the fifties! I remember
weighing on these and receiving my fortune.
I am still waiting for those lottery winnings.
Smile!!
Wonder, the price per gallon
when this baby was pumping gas?
Even I don't remember this one in use.
OK! This one I remember.
Hmmm, thirty cents per gallon. Maybe less!

Since we seem to in "gasoline alley",  do you think
the Marathon autos had to use special Marathon gas?
That would mean I have to use Toyota gas!
Alright, I am tired of this section!
The only fuel needed here is pedal power.
This so neat. I have seen, only one person,
outside of the circus, ride one of these.
He thought he was a big deal.
He wasn't really, he just
had a "big wheel".
Hey Mister! What are you looking at?
~~~~~
HOLLIE! Get off that quacker.
You know I'm out of dimes!
 Hollie loved the bulldog. They may live
in Tennessee but they are UGA fans.
I mean over the top, Christmas tree, fans.
She informed me and the dog
that he wasn't an English Bulldog,
therefore he wasn't really a bulldog.
If you are from Georgia,
you understand.
Great chippy table for all you chippy girls.
Had to throw this in. Neat reproduction
industrial light with Edison type bulb.
There were lots of neat lights.
I had to tell Hollie that this was a time clock.
Not sure if she has ever had
to punch one but I sure did.
The card was punched in that slot in the center.
~~~~~
Did you spy the reason everyone was looking up?
I'm going up! Hollie, come quick.
 I need a boost.
It's Piggly Wiggly and he loves me!
Before we left, Piggly and I
had our carnival photos made.
How many of you still have these photos?
I do, somewhere. Remember, you leaned into
the lens and your face came out
all rounded and distorted. Maybe you made faces
and stuck out your tongue. I did!
You know, tongues are ugly.
I don't have to "weight" on you, I am passing you by!
He is still looking. Fellow, he doesn't mean YOU!
~~~~~~
We saw no celebrities but we had fun. We were cheapskates, we didn't purchase anything.
The antiques were very
pricey and not to my personal taste. We didn't
see anyone else purchase the big ticket items.
The market was fast and furious
for logo merchandise.
I stopped making those purchases long ago
when I ran out of bottom bureau drawers.
We decided that the antiques were props
for presenting the promotional merchandise
but it was a fun outing together.
I hope you enjoyed coming along
I love to receive packages!!
Last month I was a WINNER!!
had an awesome giveaway
and I was the lucky winner.
The winning gift was an array of lovely items
from Mary Ann's beautiful shop
or a $100.00 gift certificate.
I chose the gift certificate
and my selections arrived today!
Bob started opening the package before
I could get my camera, I was preparing meatloaf
and didn't need to touch a camera.
 I did get shots
before we unpacked
the inner boxes
and I was squealing like a little girl.
You see in this box was...
Photo from Verbena Cottage
THIS!
Wait guys, we're not finished just yet!
In this box
Photo from Verbena Cottage
WAS THIS!
I received the large lantern. Bob really liked the lantern but he wasn't sure what one would with the milk bottles. He'll see.
It was late in the afternoon so nothing happened
with these pretties today.
I think this lantern qualifies as a cloche,
Terrarium or centerpiece. The possibilities are endless.
This will be in the center of the kitchen table tomorrow.
The dishes in the background were not in the package.
They were left there from a previous occasion.
They are Homer Laughlin. Liberty shape,
Dogwood pattern, discontinued in the 1950's.
I am looking forward to using
these beautiful Gifts.
You will seeing these again
very soon.
A HUGE THANK YOU
HEALING FIELDS
 Murfreesboro, Tennessee
Memorial Day May 28, 2012
Sponsored by the Murfreesboro Noon Exchange Club
During the holiday weekend, my daughter, son-in-law and I drove about twenty-five miles outside of Nashville to see this Memorial Tribute to our fallen  Heroes.
Hollie and Larry purchased a flag to honor, my paternal uncle, Homer Anderson who served
in Africa under Patton in World War II.
An attendant helped us locate the flag assigned to us and helped us attach my uncle's name.
Afterward we then walked through the nearly thousand flags. Since we were in Tennessee, it was not surprising that we ran across this flag.
This tribute honored Elvis Presley
He was drafted into the Army.
On March 24 1958, he entered into service
and was discharged on 5 Mar 1960.
The three of us wandered through row upon row of beautiful flags rustling in the breeze. Many of the flags had photos of handsome young servicemen. Many of them barely out of their teens. My heart grew heavy
as I reflected upon the fact that these young men were some one's son, husband, lover or father. We then saw this tribute that put it all in perspective. We saw in writing the price that these young heroes had paid.
 This handsome young serviceman, this son, husband and father would not come home to rear his son. His son had left a letter for his Dad. It was sealed in a plastic sleeve and attached to his Daddy's flag.
It was hard to photograph the letter in the bright sun, but it read as follows:
Dear Dad,
I hope you love heven.  If I new you better that would be so cool.  Its awesome that you fought for our country. But I wish you hadent died.  If my Dad hadent died I would of known some cool things.
I love you Dad.
Bye.
When we are sunning on the beach, barbecuing with friends and family, cruising the mall and especially when we vote this November, remember that this, forever absent, Daddy helped make it possible.
