Halcyon Days of Summer!

I am taking it easy this weekend, counting my blessings and getting a little R & R!
A favorite watercolor by Holly Kitaura of Hawaii. Picked up on one of our trips to that state.
This lady represents how I sometimes feel (there is a subliminal message in this painting)

 and it hangs in my kitchen.

Protect Your Treasured China

NO! DON'T STORE THEM IN A CARDBOARD CARTON!!

Before we talk about storing china
I wanted to share my newest addition to my addiction!
Saturday I received the beautiful Mikasa Bone China
in the Vintage Lace pattern that I won
over at Courtney's French Country Cottage.
Go by to visit her, you will love her blog.
Then I'd like to share a way to protect,
its beauty on a budget!

HELP SUBWAY STOCK FOOD PANTRIES!

I was contacted by Subway to help get out the news
of their promotion to help restock the shelves of
Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia
I am not being compensated in any way
for this post. It is just the right thing to do!

SUBWAY® restaurants of Savannah will participate in its first day-long food drive, Feed A Friend, on Thursday, August 22, which will benefit local food pantries.

Customers who bring in a can of food or any other non-perishable food item and buy a regular 6-inch SUBWAY® sandwich, will receive a regular 6-inch sub of equal or lesser price FREE

Come by for lunch with a friend or bring your family.  This is an opportunity to teach your children the concept of giving to those less fortunate. In addition, you are teaching them healthy eating habits
with Subway's healthy menu. The food drive will take place during Subway's normal operating hours, August 22, 2013.

This particular promotion is taking place in the coastal Georgia counties (listed below). Please check with your local Subway to determine what promotion may be taking place in your area.

Don't forget August 22nd

Here’s how it will work:

-        One-day only food drive at local SUBWAY® restaurants on August 22. During each
restaurant's normal hours.

-        All food collected will be used to directly help people within your community.

-        In exchange for a donation of non-perishable food, participants will receive a buy one get one six-inch sandwich.

-        Our goal is to drive as much community involvement as possible and collect 5,000 lbs of food.

Below is part of a press release from SUBWAY
it includes the surrounding counties that are participating
in this one day event.
~~~~~~~~~~
“We are honored to be able to support our local communities,” said SUBWAY® restaurants of Savannah board chair, John Remegi. “Being able to give back to the area in this manner, and help those in need, enables us to feed many more people than we would on any given day.”
Participating counties include Appling, Bacon, Beaufort, Bryan, Bulloch, Chandler, Chatham, Clay, Effingham, Evans, Hampton, Jasper, Jeff Davis, Knox, Liberty, Long, McIntosh, Montgomery, Screven, Tattnall, Toombs, Treutlen and Wayne. Feed A Friend originated in Jackson, MI, and is now in its 13th year.
“We are so appreciative of Subway's commitment to our community and ending hunger,” Mary Jane Crouch, Executive Director of Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia. “Their enthusiasm and support will help provide food to families and children that struggle with food insecurity.”
~~~~~~~~~~
Bring out the family, bring out the donations.
Let's get those shelves stocked before winter.

UPDATE ON RONNIE

First of all, Thank you so much for your outpouring of prayer and concern for Ronnie, his mother, Mary and their family. Ronnie's surgery was Friday. I have received two emails from Kay.
I am sharing those with you, as Kay updates his condition better than I.

Friday, August 9th
"Ronnie had his surgery today. They had hoped to only have to
take the upper lobe but did have to remove the whole lung.

I saw him around 3:30 in intensive care and he was doing
good. He did not have to go on the ventilator, he was
breathing well enough on him own to not have to do that.

He had just received something to eat and said he wanted to
eat.

Please thank everyone for their prayers and ask them to
continue to remember him as he recovers.

Will keep you informed as time goes on.
Kay"

Sunday, August 11th
"Thank you so much for checking on Ronnie. He really is doing
good . The doctor  said just the fact that he did not have
to go on the respirator put him 2-3  days ahead in recovery.
He was moved to a room today. He has been in a good deal of
pain today but that is expected.
my family has certainly seen God answer prayers this week.
Ronnie said he felt like he was actually breathing better
since the surgery. I think the bad lung was making him be
short of breath.

Mama is doing much better. I took her to the hospital on
Friday. It was a long day for her but she got to see him
before she left and he was doing good and looked good so
that made her feel better.

Thank you so much for your prayers. We appreciate them so
much. Please continue to remember him as he recovers from
this.

Kay"
We praise our Holy God that Ronnie has come through surgery so well! Our Lord is faithful in his love and grace for his children.

A treatment plan and prognosis has not been relayed to me at this time. I will continue to update you, dear friends, as I get additional information. I know you will join me in continuing to pray for Ronnie and his family.

You are such special people

A COOL, COOL SUMMER TABLE!

It seems every week something keeps me from getting a new tablescape posted. One is on the kitchen table, waiting to be photographed. Bob is tired of pushing it aside, cuz he wants his special plate, cup and saucer (ugly!). Two other tablescapes are stacked in the dining room waiting for their chance in front of the camera.
When the air conditioner went out yesterday, I gave up and decided on a replay of one of my favorite tables. Besides, it seems to make me feel a little cooler...not really.

It doesn't take a lot of money to create an interesting tablescape. You just have to think outside of the box.

PRAY FOR RONNIE!

I have a special prayer request of my blogging prayer network.
I know this is a strange picture to be showing when I am asking for prayer.

I can explain! This fruitcake directly relates to Ronnie's sweet mother, Mary. A couple of years ago I did a post about my family's tradition of baking this fruitcake from a vintage Savannah recipe.  As a result of that post I was contacted by Ronnie's sister, Kay.  She had memories of baking this cake with her mom when she was younger.
